about
The internationally renowned poet Ian McMillan has linked up with Josie Duncan, a former winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award and players from the brass section of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra to release a moving tribute to the NHS, inspired by the compassionate end of life service carried out at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Group and The Good Grief Trust.
We really hope this song will be a means of support for people at this time. The SWAN Teams show that every life has had meaning, every life has had importance and every life deserves to be treated with the utmost respect and compassion.
Everyone involved in the writing and recording of this song feel so privileged to be able to support the work of these wonderfully dedicated people.
Proceeds from the sale of the song will be donated to the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Group and The Good Grief Trust.
Float with a swan
Down that last river,
Glide with a swan
Through the shimmering sky.
Hold someone’s hand
Till the last walk is over
Here is the sound
Of the final deep sigh.
Celebrate the daughter
With a warm friendly smile,
Help this mother
To open the door
Walk with Grandad
That favourite mile
Sail with the brother
To a far distant shore.
Gather the family
Like you gather flowers
Hold them close
As they let go
Here are the precious
Few golden hours:
Swan’s lovely feathers
Softer than snow.

Three musicians doing what they do best, melding into one whole that's even greater than the sum of its astonishingly good parts. More, please! jenniem
